Mental health PIP court case: government backs down

The DWP will not appeal the High Court ruling in the case won  by the Public Law Project and their mental health client RF in December.

This means that many mental health survivors will now be eligible for higher rates of Personal Independence Payments, after the High Court said the Government’s changes were ‘blatantly discriminatory’ against them.

This is a huge victory. More than 160,000 people to access funds that they are rightly entitled to.
The decision to backdate these payments will restore the sense of independence to all those from which it was unjustly taken.
