NSUN is carrying out a piece of research exploring ‘community’ and the mental health lived experience landscape. The purpose of this project is to learn more about what community means to people with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress, or trauma.
While those of us who have ‘lived experience’ might share some experiences, we may work in different ways and have different visions for the future. Despite our differences, many organisations who try to work with people who have ‘lived experience’ often treat us as a singular group or community. This project aims to explore the complexities of this, including considering the importance of communities that are based on shared experiences and identities outside of having lived experience of mental ill-health, distress or trauma.
This research is being conducted by Courtney Buckler (she/they) on behalf of NSUN, and will culminate in a research report, due to be published in January 2024. The project is run by NSUN with funding from Mind.
