There is obvious cause for concern on mental health and social media. Platforms are toxic by design, fuelled by Big Tech companies who create intentionally addictive, and dangerous, algorithms. These companies profit while we struggle to access increasingly underfunded (and often, harmful) mental health services.
In March 2026 the UK Government launched a consultation to help them decide whether to ban social media for under 16s. Click here to read more about a potential ban and our response to it.
We believe there is a lack of nuance in conversations on social media, mental health, and the online world. We feel these issues extend well beyond young people, and we do no believe a blanket ban would solve the problem.
We are looking to capture a diverse range of views about social media, the online world, and mental health to help us to develop our action and campaigning strategies. We are particularly keen to hear about perspectives that are often overlooked. We believe knowledge about mental health & Big Tech must be developed by us, not about us.
The survey will be open until 4.00pm on Friday 8th May 2026.
