Nothing About Us Without Us: Disability Justice and Palestinian Liberation workshops with Makan

NSUN is excited to be working with Makan – a Palestinian-led educational organisation – to deliver two interactive workshops to members on Disability Justice and Palestinian Liberation.

These interactive workshops, developed by Makan with Diversity & Ability, examines the concepts of disability and disablement in relation to Palestine. Through growing our understanding of disability justice in Palestine, the workshop explores how disability justice is not only a human rights issue but also an integral part of the broader anti-colonial movement. The workshops also highlight how understanding the Palestinian struggle should and must inform work within the Disability Justice movement.

These workshops are free to attend and will be split into two parts – you will need to register separately for each. While attendance at both workshops is encouraged, it is not compulsory, and you may attend one or the other. We would encourage registrants to copy and paste their answers across both registration forms, or save their answers in a separate doc to complete both forms at their convenience.

Those wanting to join must complete a short application form (links below) and be registered as an NSUN member. Member registration is free and can be completed here (membership is open to individuals with lived experience of mental ill-health, distress or trauma as well as user-led groups).

NSUN’s Conduct Agreement

We want virtual NSUN spaces to be safe, welcoming, and inclusive. Harassment, hate speech, and inappropriate behaviour of any kind, verbal or in the chat/Q&A, will not be tolerated.

We reserve the right to immediately remove any attendee we consider to be in breach of this conduct agreement. This includes anyone making racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise discriminatory, offensive, or hateful remarks.

Removed participants will not be able to re-join the session, or, if applicable, join any of the rest of the sessions in a day or series of events. In order to avoid the derailing of sessions we will not enter into conversations around why conduct was deemed inappropriate in the sessions themselves.

NSUN stands unequivocally against the ongoing occupation of Palestine, and the genocide being enacted by the Israeli state. We will not enter into discussion around this before or during the training and reserve the right to refuse attendance to anyone demonstrating a desire to disrupt the session or its focus, without further discussion.

Part 1: 12th November 2025, from 4.00–5.30pm (UK time)

Part 1 critically examines multiple ways of understanding disability through interactive discussion. This session is a useful primer for thinking about how mainstream understandings of disability, in society at large and in Western disability movements, may or may not be useful in the Palestinian context.

You will receive a response to your registration onwards from the week commencing October 27th.

Part 2: 26th November 2025, from 4.00–5.30pm (UK time)

Part 2 builds on the first by using interactive group work and discussion to explore the uses and limits of different models of disability in the Palestinian context. The session examines how disability justice is integral to Palestinian struggle, and how Palestine can grow our understanding of disability justice as a necessary part of the broader anti-colonial movement. This workshop is preceded by part 1 on November the 12th attendance at both sessions is encouraged but not compulsory.

You will receive a response to your registration onwards from the week commencing October 27th.
