International Day Against Homophobia &Transphobia (IDAHO) is on 17th May and presents us with an important opportunity to raise awareness of the inclusion of LGB&T people in our service provision and strategic planning.
Download the introductory letter here for more information.
ELOP is a charity that serves to promote the health and well-being of LGB&T identified people and those who have same-sex attraction through direct support services, such as counselling and advocacy for LGB&T community members, as a strategic partner with the Department of Health addressing LGB&T health inequalities at a national level, as well as offering research, training and consultancy for third sector, public and private organizations.
Difficulties in recognising LGB&T people can exacerbate the problem of invisibility so ELOP works to combat this through encouraging the use of simple marketing materials to show the recognition of our hidden communities and demonstrate commitment to their inclusion in all services.
To support this, ELOP has developed a resource kit from which you can choose a range of LGB&T related posters, flyers, wristbands, ribbons, badges, key rings and paperclips that you can purchase to distribute throughout your workplace and service user groups.
Just download the Brochure and Order Form.
The order can be with you within 24hrs (or 48hrs for orders received after 5pm on Fridays).
Some examples of how these resources have been used by other organisations are to display the posters around your workplace and customer centre and to include a flyer and ribbon with staff pay slips. Another example is to purchase the ribbons, bracelets and postcards to give out during targeted outreach events. Whilst the resources are a useful tool for LGB&T History Month, they can be used throughout the year, maximising your investment.
ELOP also offers staff training around sexual orientation, presentations on LGB&T matters, delivering workshops on specific LGB&T experiences, or supporting services to look at how to be more accessible to LGB&T people.
This is a low cost, quick win, easy way for you to keep equality and inclusion on your agenda and meet your duties under the Equality Act and Public Sector Equality Duties.
Please contact Claire McComb if you would like to discuss these and our other consultation services further.
